Here at The Relaxation Centre we pride ourselves on the high quality of our treatments. All our practitioners are fully qualified and experienced. The range of holistic treatments we offer are described below. If you have any particular requirements, such as deep tissue massage, or have any injuries, medical conditions or are pregnant, please mention this at the time of booking. We will then be able to book you in with a suitably trained practitioner.

Holistic Massage

‘Holistic’ means ‘whole’, so holistic massage is a massage that treats the whole person. Massage can help on many levels from the physical and mental to the emotional and spiritual. By taking a person centred approach, in which they use a range of techniques, our practitioners are able to adapt the treatment to meet the need of each client whether that is a gentle, firm or deep tissue treatment. A massage can help you to feel relaxed and revitalised; or alternatively you may prefer the focus to be on easing injured, tense or aching muscles. If you have any special requirements for your treatment please let us know at the time of booking.

A half-hour session is a head, neck and shoulders massage, a one-hour session is a full body massage. You can also book in for a one and a half hour session or a two-hour session, which allows time for a really thorough massage.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage involves the application of water-heated basalt stones of varying sizes to key points on the body, giving a deep massage and creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The direct heat relaxes muscles, allowing a treatment of a greater intensity than with regular massage. The treatment can also utilize cooled marble stones in localised areas for an even deeper effect on the body’s physiological systems. The practitioners who offer this are already trained in holistic massage so use the stones to enhance the power of what they practise.

This treatment is not recommended for pregnant women.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy includes the use of essential oils in a holistic massage treatment to benefit the client’s physical and emotional wellbeing. The treatment begins with a consultation so that the practitioner can select the most appropriate blend of oils for that client’s needs. Each essential oil possesses distinctive therapeutic properties, which can be blended and utilized to improve health and prevent disease. The oils are absorbed through the skin and have gentle physiological effects. Aromatherapy is effective for stress related problems, a variety of chronic conditions, and is also deeply relaxing.

Reflexology

Reflexology is based on the theory that every organ, area & system of the body is mirrored with a reflex point in the feet. By massaging these points the reflexologist can facilitate a clearing of any blockages in the corresponding areas of the body. Reflexology is a holistic treatment that can be effective in treating conditions such as migraine, eczema, asthma, insomnia, low energy levels and stress. It also encourages relaxation and promotes good health and vitality.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu therapy is an ancient Japanese total-body treatment, given through clothing on pressure points to stimulate the flow of energy and improve circulation. Unlike its Chinese equivalent, acupuncture, Shiatsu requires no needles, relying instead on thumbs, palms, heels of hands & elbows, (sometimes knees and feet) to apply pressure on to vital points of the body. Along with pressure point treatment, gentle stretches and corrective exercises are also used. A Shiatsu treatment is likely to leave you feeling deeply calm, aware, alive and relaxed.

It relaxes, detoxifies and de-stresses, encourages healthy hair growth, as well as stimulating and balancing the body’s energy system. The treatment works on the upper back, shoulders, head, neck and face. It can be applied through clothes or directly on to the skin using oil. This is a seated treatment.

Thai Yoga Massage

Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient healing art, originating in 3,000 BC. Thai Massage works on an energy line system (the Ten Sen) through which the body’s natural life force flows. The therapist uses hands, feet and elbows to apply pressure to important points along these lines, in combination with gentle stretching and applied yoga type stretches. This releases blocked energy and frees the body’s own natural healing potential, thus restoring balance, health and harmony.

Please bring loose comfortable clothing to wear during the treatment.

This treatment is not recommended for pregnant women.

Acupuncture is also used to treat a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. Pressure points on the body are stimulated with extremely fine needles, warming herbs or other techniques. Many people come for treatment purely to unwind and release tension, whilst others come seeking help with a specific health problem.
